As far as I can tell, there really is no Christian Right in the US. There are a lot of professional politicians in full religious-drag; and there are a lot of people who want so badly to believe “their candidates” are good men/women running for office, that the partnership in illusion has become permanent.
Conservative voters want to believe so strongly in fact, that they willingly agree not to notice the incongruities between what candidates say, and what they do. Or between what they say one minute, and then what they say the next. Or even the differences between what the candidates profess, what what the voters themselves believe.
I don’t know which is more pathetic — that the republican/conservative politicians are this corrupt — or that 1/2 the country wants so badly to believe they are not.
It’s not so much an IQ test as it is a testament to denial.
