The Un-Named Spread

One of the questions in the tarot collector’s discussion group was: What spread / layout do you use most often and why?” —

I wrote out an answer, and then realized I’d never written this down before.  So here’s a description of the here-to-fore unnamed layout I use most often.  I guess it might aptly be called “The Asperger Spread” — since I assume the level of detail and scope has something to do with the Asperger’s….

I use an open-ended spread with 3 positions: 1. what you already know (about the topic of the reading); 2. what you DON’T know (missing information); and 3. what you NEED to know or to keep in mind/what you need to pay most attention to. The first card in each column/set of 3 pegs the focus of that set.

Then each column lays out in a progression from details to big picture. Sometimes, it is just a total of 6 or 9 cards (3 columns) to get to the big picture; but I’ve also had it take as many as 8 to wind through all the details the person is wrestling with….

You end up with a whole row of (#1 things the person already knows and understands, arranged from the most specific to the most global; then a similar row of #2 things that are new information, or they haven’t considered or put into context; and then the row of #3 highlighted and almost action-points they need to keep in the front of their mind.

EACH COLUMN/set IS A SET OF 3, starting with specific at the left and becoming more global as you move to the right.
ROW 1 is what you know
ROW 2 is what you DON’T know
ROW 3 is what you NEED to know

SET 1 … SET 2 … SET 3 … SET 4 … SET 5 … SET 6 … SET 7 … SET 8

1…X….   ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….

2…X….   ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….

3…X….   ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….    ….X….

I will add pictures as some later date.
